DHL invoices fall into three different categories:

Outbound invoices cover shipments originating in the UK.

Inbound invoices relate to shipments coming into the UK from abroad and attract different shipment charges to Outbound invoices.

If your invoice is prefixed by any of the following, the charges relate to shipments, and/or additional charges, coming into the UK from abroad.

CODI: Inbound delivery charges (Transport Collect). Shipment is delivered within the UK and billed to the receiver as per instructions on the waybill. The account number to be billed will be assigned by DHL if not quoted by the shipper.

EBAI: Inbound freight charges for shipments on your Import Express account number.

IDYI: Inbound delivery charges (Transport Collect). The receiver of the shipment provides the account number to be billed.

UK Service Centre Code followed by 'I' (e.g. ABZI, BHXI): Import Duties and Taxes charges are reverted to UK shipper \ UK account holder as per instructions on the waybill. This does not relate to shipment charges.

These charges are levied by HM Customs and Excise and have been paid for by DHL Express on your behalf in order that we can deliver your goods.

The following prefixes all denote Import Duty and VAT related charges:

DHL invoices are available in various formats:

If you would like to change the appearance of your invoice, you can request an invoice in the following formats: -

Date order
Shipper's reference order
Separate invoice per destination
Separate invoice per product
Multi product invoice

Are you unsure who sent the shipment, and do you need a copy of the waybill?
We are happy to provide you with copies, but would ask that you refer to the following before requesting:

Our couriers leave a copy of the waybill either at your reception or goods entrance
The Shipper's Reference on the invoice could be a means of identifying who within your company sent the shipment. (Please note that on Inbound invoices, the shipper's reference narrative may be more meaningful to the shipper).

Unable to authorise payment for a shipment on your invoice because the purchase order number is not quoted?
The Shipper's Reference box, located under the shipper account number on the waybill, enables you to enter a reference of your choice that will help identify the sender. The first 12 characters of this reference will appear on your invoice. DHL cannot provide you with your purchase order or cost centre number unless the person completing the waybill enters this information in the reference field.

Does the shipment weight on your invoice differ from that shown on your waybill?
After collection, all shipments are reweighed at your local DHL Service Centre.
We use our own scales to check the actual weight and an overhead scanner system to capture the shipment's dimensions. The dimensions are required to calculate Volumetric Weight.

The chargeable weight shown on your invoice will be the shipment's actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater.

This reweighing system was developed in consultation with the UK Weighing Federation, and the equipment used fulfils the requirements of the Trading Standard Weights and Measures Act 1985.
