Changes in fuel prices result in fluctuating costs for the transport industry, necessitating a variable fuel surcharge which may rise, fall or be removed, in line with movements in fuel prices.
The fuel surcharge for international Time Definite and domestic Express 9:00 and Express 12:00 services will be based on the monthly average spot prices for US Gulf Coast (USGC) kerosene-type jet fuel, as reported by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The fuel surcharge for Day Definite and domestic close of business services will be based on the most suitable national measure of diesel prices. The surcharge is linked to the consumer price in Euros of diesel fuel inclusive of duties and taxes and published here. Within Europe this is measured by the European Commission Directorate General for Energy and Transport and published in the Oil Bulletin.
There will be a two month lag in the application of the index. For example, the monthly average price for fuel in January is used to determine the applicable surcharge for March. This is due to the release dates of the spot pricing data.
The fuel surcharge applies to transportation charges on all services, Service Premiums and to the following surcharges (where applicable) and Optional Services:
- Remote Area
- Saturday Delivery
- Saturday Pickup
- Non-Stackable Pallet
- Over Weight Piece
- Over Sized Piece
- Elevated Risk
DHL Express reserves the right to change the fuel surcharge index and table with or without notice. Both the amount and duration of the surcharge will be determined at DHL's sole discretion.
