Formula One: DHL to recognize the fastest of the fast
For the first time in the upcoming season: "DHL Fastest Lap Trophy"
Formula One is the world's fastest racing series. And DHL is the world's leading express-delivery company. What could be a better idea than presenting the fastest Formula One driver with the DHL Fastest Lap Trophy? The trophy winner will be the driver who accumulates the largest number of fastest laps during the season, the "DHL Fastest Lap". This marks the first time that the fastest of the fast in Formula One will be officially honored.
Formula One will start its new season on March 18, 2007, in Australia. And, for the fourth time, DHL will serve as a global partner and the official logistics provider for Formula One. From race cars, replacement parts and pit-crew equipment to special fuel and the furnishings of the "Paddock Club" - the 20 experts in DHL's special team move around 300 tons of material for each race weekend. Just like the grand prix races themselves, this job requires speed, precision and teamwork. "Given these shared demands, an active role in Formula One was the obvious choice for us. By linking the DHL brand to the fastest lap during a race and the trophy for the driver with the largest number of fastest laps during the season, we want to show that you can be fast only if performance, endurance and reliability are finely tuned and all team members pull together," said Wolfgang Giehl, Director of Corporate Advertising and Branding at DPWN.
"The DHL Fastest Lap Trophy recognizes the very things that make Formula One: speed and organisation. The very things that DHL portray. We rely on the most successful partner in this sector," said Bernie Ecclestone, Chairman and CEO of Formula One Management.
Michael Schumacher has the largest number of fastest laps in Formula One history: 76. He is followed by Alain Prost (41) and Nigel Mansell (30). Ferrari holds the lead among racing teams with a total of 193 fastest laps. In 1993, Damon Hill drove the fastest lap of all time while competing in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza: an average speed of 249.835 kilometers per hour.
